At least 13 people, including a child, were killed after Ukrainian forces launched an extensive overnight drone barrage across multiple western regions of Russia. Beyond residential impacts, the Ukrainian drone offensive targeted vital energy and logistics facilities deep inside Russian territory. In Volgograd, local officials reported that a drone strike ignited a blaze at an oil refinery. As a result, emergency crews were forced to contain a large industrial fire.
Flight operations at regional airports were temporarily suspended during the overnight strikes as defense forces engaged low-flying targets. Technical crews are currently working to restore power lines and heat infrastructure disrupted by the explosions.
Kremlin Vows Response as Cross-Border Escalation Surges
The Kremlin strongly condemned the strike, characterizing the targeted attack on civilian areas as an act of terrorism. Official spokespersons declared that Russian armed forces will respond to the attack with targeted strikes against Ukrainian military assets. Additionally, they will strike command centers.
Kyiv has not formally claimed direct responsibility for every strike location. This is consistent with its long-standing policy on operations inside Russian borders.
