Seven years after Avengers: Endgame became one of the biggest theatrical events in modern cinema, Marvel Studios has brought the film back to Indian theatres.
Avengers: Endgame Encore opened across India on Friday, September 25, with additional footage and an exclusive look at the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release is available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, with screenings across premium formats including IMAX and 4DX.The return has generated significant interest among Marvel fans.
Early box-office estimates reported by The Times of India put the film’s Friday morning net collection at around ₹1 crore, with the figure expected to increase as more shows are counted.
Strong Advance Bookings Before Release
Interest in Endgame Encore was already visible before the film reached cinemas.
According to data cited by The Times of India, advance bookings across seven show dates had reached approximately ₹17.24 crore, including blocked seats.
September 25 accounted for around ₹6.50 crore of the advance bookings at the time of the report. The film has also received a large number of screenings.
Premium formats have been particularly important, with audiences paying higher ticket prices for IMAX and other large-format experiences.
Moneycontrol reported that PVR INOX planned around 3,500 to 4,000 shows a day for the re-release, a scale usually associated with major new releases rather than older films returning to cinemas.
What Is New in Endgame Encore?
Marvel is not presenting the film as a simple repeat screening.
The Encore edition includes additional footage and material connecting the story with Avengers: Doomsday, the next major Avengers film scheduled for December 18, 2026.
Marvel has also promoted an exclusive preview of Doomsday as one of the attractions for audiences returning to the cinema.
The extended presentation gives longtime Marvel viewers an additional reason to revisit the 2019 film, while also offering younger audiences who did not experience its original theatrical run another opportunity to see it on the big screen.
Seven Years After the Original Release
Avengers: Endgame originally arrived in cinemas in April 2019 and concluded the central storyline of the Infinity Saga.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brought together major Marvel characters played by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson and several other members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Its original theatrical run became a major global box-office event. The new release comes at a different stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Avengers: Doomsday now approaching its December release.
The Russos are also returning to direct Doomsday, creating a direct connection between the filmmakers behind Endgame and the next Avengers chapter.
Competition at the Indian Box Office
Endgame Encore has returned during a busy period for Indian cinemas.
The Marvel re-release is competing for audiences with films including The Paradise and Hanuman Ansh.
The Times of India reported that The Paradise had already recorded an estimated ₹46.87 crore net in India, while Hanuman Ansh was continuing its theatrical run.
For a re-release, the performance of Endgame Encore will therefore depend not only on its opening but also on how strongly audiences continue to return over the weekend.
Moneycontrol quoted exhibitors as saying that repeat viewing and weekend performance would be important indicators for the film’s overall run.
Marvel Uses Nostalgia Ahead of Doomsday
The decision to bring Endgame back to theatres comes at a time when anticipation around the next Avengers film is building.
By combining the familiar 2019 blockbuster with new material connected to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is using one of its most recognisable films to reconnect audiences with the wider Avengers storyline.
For Indian audiences, the re-release also arrives in multiple languages and premium formats, expanding access beyond the original theatrical experience.
