The border security chief had confirmed recurring standoffs along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh.
Security officials explained that both militaries historically operated within mutually recognized patrolling windows. However, Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) patrols frequently deviate from established timetables and routes. According to security updates reported by The Indian Express, these sudden Chinese patrol deviations spark physical confrontations in overlapping claim sectors. Therefore, the Centre emphasized that Indian border guards react firmly to protect sovereign territorial boundaries.

The issue gained national attention after the ITBP chief addressed security personnel during an operational briefing. DG Shatrujeet Kapur confirmed that Indian and Chinese troops continue to encounter each other at multiple high-altitude friction points.
He highlighted that modern border guarding requires technological agility alongside conventional foot patrols. As detailed by The Hindu, the paramilitary force is deploying advanced reconnaissance drones and constructing reinforced underground blast shelters. Furthermore, Kapur stressed that forward outposts maintain high combat readiness across harsh Himalayan terrain. Consequently, the ITBP reaffirmed its commitment to deny any unilateral change of status quo along the northern border.

Party spokespersons demanded that the government disclose full operational details of forward standoffs. As reported by India Today, the opposition accused the administration of concealing recurring border friction from Parliament. In addition, critics noted that tensions persist despite multiple rounds of bilateral diplomatic talks. As a result, the controversy reignited parliamentary debates over long-term strategic preparedness along the contested Himalayan frontier.
Infrastructure Upgrades Bolster Forward Vigilance
Central defense planners stated that robust border infrastructure now enables Indian forces to match Chinese maneuvers instantly. The government has completed strategic all-weather tunnels, high-altitude bridges, and border highways across eastern sectors.
These logistics corridors allow rapid troop mobilization during sudden tactical emergencies. Meanwhile, local military commanders resolve standard patrol encounters through established Border Personnel Meetings (BPMs) and military hotlines. On the other hand, security analysts noted that persistent Chinese infrastructure development demands sustained Indian vigilance. Moreover, the Centre affirmed that Indian forces will not compromise on national sovereignty. The ongoing deployment underscores India’s resolute posture against unilateral border provocations in the Eastern Himalayas.
