Union Home Minister Amit Shah is prepared to address Parliament regarding police action against student protesters during the July 20 march over paper leaks. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the government’s stance in the Lok Sabha as the parliamentary deadlock extended into the final week of the Monsoon Session.

However, the Centre attached a strict condition to the proposed statement. Rijiju emphasized that opposition parties must allow the House to function without creating disturbances while the Home Minister delivers his response.

Centre Demands Uninterrupted Hearing During Home Minister’s Speech

Addressing the Lok Sabha after a Business Advisory Committee meeting, Kiren Rijiju clarified that the government is fully open to a threadbare discussion on the student movement. He urged opposition members to refrain from shouting slogans or distracting the House during the minister’s address.

Following Rijiju’s announcement, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, presiding in the Chair, appealed to opposition benches to maintain order and allow normal legislative proceedings to resume.

Logjam Threatens Crucial Bills in Final Days of Monsoon Session

With only four days remaining in the ongoing Monsoon Session, key legislative business remains stalled amid continuous disruptions. Important proposals, including the Women’s Reservation Bill linked to delimitation and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill, face an uncertain fate.

None of these major bills featured on the Lok Sabha’s list of business on Monday. The government has actively reached out to opposition groups, including the DMK, seeking consensus to pass the women’s quota and delimitation proposals.

Opposition Intensifies Pressure Over Police Action and Ram Temple Issue

Opposition parties have persistently disrupted parliamentary proceedings, demanding accountability for police force used against students during the July 20 march. Protesters initially marched demanding the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has since stepped down.

Opposition MPs are also demanding a formal debate on alleged donation thefts at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticized the government on social media, accusing security forces of attacking peaceful students with pellet guns and tear gas. Gandhi demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the crackdown.

Meanwhile, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that the parliamentary deadlock will persist until the Home Minister delivers a formal statement on the floor of the House.
