Delhi Police has registered an FIR over allegedly abusive posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked X to hand over details of the accounts that posted the videos in question.
The move marks an escalation from earlier notices the force had sent out to social media platforms over content shared during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led student protests.
According to reports, Delhi Police has issued notices to several social media accounts as part of a wider crackdown on abusive posts targeting the Prime Minister that circulated during the protests.
The exact number of accounts served with notices isn’t immediately known, though an NDTV report said the action also extends to some news portals accused of sharing similar content.

Police have separately issued a notice to X, seeking details of users who allegedly posted or shared the content now under investigation. This follows earlier notices Delhi Police sent to social media intermediaries, directing them to take down posts found to violate applicable laws and platform rules.
According to police officials, several posts containing abusive remarks and videos targeting the Prime Minister surfaced during the student protests and the violence that followed in the capital.
Officials said the Delhi Police’s Social Media Monitoring Team has been tracking content across platforms to flag posts that allegedly violate existing laws or carry the potential to disturb public order.
That monitoring effort, according to earlier police sources, began almost as soon as the protests turned volatile, with officers reviewing uploaded content both during and after the demonstrations to identify material for removal.
