Nineteen-year-old law student and model Kaziah Liz Mejo has made pageantry history. She won the prestigious Miss Universe India 2026 crown at a glittering grand finale in Jaipur. She outperformed 51 other finalists from across the country to claim the coveted title. With this triumph, she becomes the first woman from Kerala to win the national crown. Outgoing titleholder Manika Vishwakarma passed on the crown during the gala event on Sunday.
From Childhood in Abu Dhabi to National Stardom
Kaziah Liz Mejo hails from Mavelikkara in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. She spent her formative growing years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
During her schooling in the UAE, she balanced academics with classical arts and public speaking. Later, she returned to India to pursue her higher studies in law.
Her articulate answers and poise on the runway impressed a celebrity judging panel that included India’s first Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen, as well as Celina Jaitly and Urvashi Rautela.
Overcoming Self-Doubt to Shine on the Grand Runway
The young law student’s path to the crown was driven by personal transformation. In her interviews, Mejo shared that she struggled with low self-confidence during her early teenage years.
However, consistent public speaking practice, fashion modeling, and disciplined fitness training helped her build self-belief.

Representing India at the 75th Miss Universe in Puerto Rico
Following her national victory, Mejo will now represent India internationally. She will compete at the 75th Miss Universe pageant in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this November.
Pageant trainers and grooming experts will prepare her for the global contest over the coming months. Speaking to reporters after her win, Mejo called the moment a dream come true.
She expressed deep pride in showcasing Kerala’s rich culture and inspiring young women across the nation to pursue their ambitions fearlessly.
