Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor backed the youth agitation in New Delhi on Sunday. He termed the heavy security deployment the clearest proof of the protest’s success. Authorities deployed over 40,000 police and paramilitary personnel to seal off the capital. Law enforcement agencies also closed 45 metro stations and cancelled inbound passenger trains.
Speaking to reporters, the Bankipur lawmaker argued that governments mobilize massive security forces only when they feel deeply shaken. According to detailed reporting by The Indian Express, Kishor noted that a small student rally would never require an army of troops. Therefore, the administration’s frantic efforts to block streets showed that the youth movement had already achieved its primary goal.
Kishor Backs Demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
The former political strategist also joined the national call demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He asserted that recent voter list deletions raised grave questions about institutional neutrality. The ongoing controversy stems from the poll body’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program.
Civil society groups allege that authorities removed millions of legitimate citizens from voting rolls without due process. Consequently, Kishor stated that the Election Commission must face democratic accountability. In addition, he argued that public confidence in elections remains vital for democracy. He warned that ignoring these concerns will severely damage the credibility of future electoral mandates.
Heavy Clampdown Shows Government Anxiety
Kishor highlighted the extreme administrative steps taken to stop the rally at Jantar Mantar. Police personnel boarded a domestic flight to detain Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke. Officers also rounded up thousands of demonstrators across bus terminals and railway stations.
However, Kishor pointed out that these aggressive measures completely backfired. Instead of quieting the agitation, the curfew-like curbs placed the voting rights issue on every television screen. Furthermore, the clampdown drew sharp condemnations from legal bodies and state leaders. As a result, the protest exposed official panic rather than administrative control.
Youth Movement Shifts National Political Debate
The Jan Suraaj chief commended ordinary students for challenging the political status quo. He emphasized that young citizens organized the agitation without relying on conventional political patrons. Meanwhile, established political parties rushed to support the campaign only after public outrage erupted.
Moreover, Kishor noted that citizen-led movements force established politicians to confront real governance failures. On the other hand, ruling party spokespersons dismissed the gathering as an orchestrated political stunt. Nevertheless, Kishor concluded that the presence of 40,000 armed personnel on Delhi’s roads proved that the youth won the moral victory.
