North Western Railway (NWR) has announced a major capacity expansion to tackle heavy travel demand. The railway zone will attach 132 additional coaches across 94 regular trains. This decision aims to clear long waiting lists ahead of upcoming festivals. Railway authorities finalized the augmentation plan after reviewing high passenger traffic across major northern and western rail corridors.
Large-Scale Capacity Boost Across Four Railway Divisions
The coach additions cover all four major divisions under the North Western Railway zone. Operational teams in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Bikaner divisions are executing the rollout.
Zonal officials identified key express and superfast trains facing severe berth shortages.
The temporary and permanent augmentations will create thousands of additional seats daily. This measure will provide immediate relief to daily commuters, families, and long-distance travellers.
AC, Sleeper, and General Coaches Added to Key Corridors
The expansion includes a balanced mix of different coach categories. Railways is adding Third AC, Second AC, Sleeper Class, and General Second Class coaches. Additional AC coaches will cater to long-distance reserved passengers.
Meanwhile, extra unreserved coaches will ease overcrowding in general compartments. Technical teams at primary maintenance yards are inspecting the rakes before attachment.
Relief for High-Demand Inter-State Routes
The augmented trains link Rajasthan with major commercial and cultural hubs across India. Routes connecting Jaipur to Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Amritsar will see expanded rake capacity.
Popular pilgrimage services to Haridwar, Prayagraj, and Varanasi will also carry extra coaches.
Trains originating from Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Udaipur will offer higher seat availability. This move ensures smoother transit for passengers travelling across state borders.

Passengers can check updated seat availability through official railway portals and reservation counters.
Waitlisted ticket holders will receive confirmed berths automatically as extra coaches get linked to passenger reservation systems.
