A detailed police investigation has dismantled the viral narrative behind a tragic family death in Maharashtra. Initial social media reports claimed that an iPhone dispute drove three family members to plunge off a cliff. However, Maharashtra Police have now clarified that deeper domestic discord caused the tragedy. The incident claimed the lives of Murlidhar Chandgude, his wife Sangita, and their 20-year-old son Kunal at Khawadya Hill near Tisgaon.

How the Viral iPhone Narrative Unravelled

Early speculation suggested that Kunal demanded an expensive smartphone and forced his father to pay hefty EMIs. Police officers quickly rejected this theory after inspecting the household.

The family already owned multiple smartphones and faced no acute financial strain from gadget purchases.

Investigating Officer Naresh Thakre confirmed that phone demands had no connection to the deaths. Instead, investigators found severe long-standing friction within the family circle.

Three-Hour Standoff on Khawadya Hill

The tragedy unfolded on the morning of August 21 atop a 250-foot cliff. Kunal climbed the steep hill alone after threatening self-harm.

His panicked parents and local police rushed to the spot. They spent nearly three hours pleading with him to step back. Around 1:00 PM, Murlidhar reached forward to pull his son to safety.

Video footage showed Kunal losing balance and clutching his father in panic. Both slipped off the steep ledge together. Distraught by the sight, Sangita leaped into the gorge moments later.

Deep Marital Discord and Property Disputes

Police inquiries revealed bitter domestic tensions between the couple spanning over a decade. Murlidhar and Sangita had lived separately for nearly 15 years before recently reconciling. However, Murlidhar began visiting his ancestral home three months ago.

Sangita strongly opposed these visits and argued frequently over property rights. The mounting emotional turmoil severely affected their young son, pushing him toward distress.

Social Media Videos Challenge Public Misconceptions

Old social media videos posted by Sangita have added crucial context to the investigation. In several clips, she spoke emotionally about property alienation, fractured relationships, and family betrayals. Other videos captured affectionate moments showing Kunal caring for his mother.

Relatives stated that these records disprove shallow rumours about a spoiled teenager fighting over a mobile phone. Police continue to record statements from relatives to complete the formal inquiry.
