The Uttar Pradesh State Cabinet has approved a major financial boost for young doctors. The government has more than doubled the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns. The allowance rises from ₹12,000 per month to ₹25,000 per month. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired the cabinet meeting that cleared the medical education department’s proposal.
Major Financial Relief for Nearly 4,000 Medicos
The substantial hike will directly benefit approximately 3,928 medical and dental interns across the state. The revised allowance applies to all state-run medical colleges, dental institutes, and medical universities.
Deputy Chief Minister and Medical Education Minister Brajesh Pathak congratulated the medical fraternity. He affirmed that supporting healthcare workers remains a top priority for the state.
Recognition of Heavy Clinical Workloads and Night Shifts
Compulsory rotating internships are mandatory for all graduating MBBS and BDS students. Interns serve as the frontline backbone of public healthcare delivery. They handle intensive care units, outpatient departments, and emergency wards daily.
Interns also manage demanding 24-hour night shifts and rural postings. Medical associations highlighted that the revised stipend ensures dignity and fair compensation for their rigorous hospital service.
Past Revisions and Parity with National Standards
The latest revision marks the second major stipend increase in recent years. Before 2021, medical interns in Uttar Pradesh received only ₹7,500 monthly.
The government raised the allowance to ₹12,000 per month five years ago. However, student bodies continued demanding parity with central institutions and other progressive states.
The new ₹25,000 monthly allowance brings Uttar Pradesh in line with national standards, offering vital financial relief to young medicos.
