The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday passed a formal resolution to defend the sacred legacy of the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’. The ruling party strongly condemned the Congress Working Committee (CWC). The CWC restricted the singing of the anthem to only its first two stanzas at official party events.
Furthermore, BJP National President Nitin Nabin announced a massive nationwide campaign. This campaign aims to take the history, cultural meaning, and national pride of the complete six-stanza song to every household across India.
BJP Rebuffs ‘Vote-Bank Politics’ and Announces Nationwide Campaign
In its political resolution, the BJP affirmed that Vande Mataram remains the supreme mantra of India’s freedom struggle. The party declared that it will firmly reject any effort to subordinate the National Song to communal pressure, political appeasement, or electoral calculations.
Party chief Nitin Nabin stated that the words of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay once shook the British Empire and inspired thousands of revolutionaries on their way to the gallows.
Therefore, BJP workers will organize awareness drives, seminars, and recitations in every state. Their aim is to promote the song’s foundational contribution to the national consciousness.
Senior Leaders Accuse Congress of Repeating Historical Appeasement
Senior BJP leaders launched a sharp attack against the opposition leadership. Union Home Minister Amit Shah argued that the Congress Working Committee in 1937 divided Vande Mataram under communal pressure. This division historically encouraged the two-nation theory and culminated in Partition.
He pointed out that the central government has now given full legal dignity to all six stanzas under the national honour framework.
Consequently, BJP leaders accused the Congress of acting like a modern iteration of the Muslim League. They claimed the opposition did this by deliberately truncating the invocation of Bharat Mata.
Congress Defends 1937 Legacy as Emotional Heritage
Meanwhile, the Congress firmly stood by its decision to recite the first two stanzas. Party leaders K.C. Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh explained that the 1937 convention was formulated by iconic stalwarts including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Rabindranath Tagore. These leaders worked to unite diverse communities during the independence movement.
The opposition maintained that singing the opening stanzas is a time-honoured practice followed by generations of leaders.
In addition, the Congress alleged that the ruling party is using the National Song as a political tool. They say this is happening to divert public attention from critical livelihood issues, youth unemployment, and examination reforms.
