In a major political intervention within the ruling alliance, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He urged his INDIA bloc partner to personally meet representatives of students protesting alleged recruitment examination irregularities. Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental pillar of Indian democracy. He reaffirmed the Congress party’s nationwide stance against paper leaks and institutional corruption in the education sector.
Acknowledging that the Jharkhand government had already established an official committee to initiate talks. Gandhi noted that several students remain on an indefinite hunger strike.
He called on Soren to extend full solidarity to the youth. And urging him to resolve the remaining points of friction through direct dialogue.
Escalating Agitation Over JSSC and JPSC Irregularities
The student protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi has entered its 24th consecutive day. Agitating job aspirants under the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch banner are protesting alleged paper leaks and discrepancies in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) exam and the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) preliminary exam.
Protesters are demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, complete cancellation of disputed exams, structural overhauls of recruitment bodies, and strict accountability for responsible officials.
Alliance Dynamics and Student Demands
The Congress released the letter following mounting pressure from student groups in Ranchi. Demonstrators had recently burnt effigies of coalition leaders, accusing the ruling JMM-Congress alliance of failing to take decisive action.
Protesters have announced plans to march toward the Chief Minister’s residence and the Vidhan Sabha on August 20 if their core demands remain unaddressed.
While the state government has initiated a CID probe and invited student delegates for fresh negotiations alongside legal experts, student leaders maintain that their peaceful agitation will continue until concrete solutions are guaranteed.
