A daring burglary has rattled commercial traders in the temple town of Mathura in western Uttar Pradesh. A lone masked intruder broke into a prominent jewellery showroom in the Kosi Kalan market area. The burglar spent nearly eight hours inside the premises during the dead of night. He escaped with over 10 kilograms of gold ornaments valued at ₹14 crore, according to The Indian Express.

The perpetrator also decamped with nearly ₹14 lakh in cash stored inside the strongroom. The shop owner discovered the massive theft upon arriving to open the store on Monday morning. The intruder managed to leave without triggering external market security alarms or breaking storefront shutters. Consequently, district police formed multiple specialized investigative teams to track down the culprit.

Entering Through the Rooftop Under Cover of Darkness

The suspect initiated the meticulous operation around 9:30 pm on Sunday evening. Dressed entirely in black, the individual climbed adjacent commercial structures to access the showroom’s terrace. The intruder exploited an unreinforced ventilation shaft to slip quietly through the ceiling. Furthermore, street surveillance footage confirmed that the burglar wore a tight fabric face covering throughout the entry.

The thief entered the commercial space without damaging the building’s primary structural locks. The burglar navigated the darkened interior corridors with remarkable confidence and speed. Meanwhile, local night watchmen patrolling the market road below suspected nothing unusual. Therefore, the criminal gained complete uninterrupted access to the showroom’s multi-level retail floor, as highlighted by Jansatta.

Eight Hours Inside the Strongroom and Safe

The intruder spent nearly eight hours inside the showroom selecting premium inventory. The suspect bypassed secondary security barriers and walked directly toward the main storage vault. Surprisingly, the safe showed no signs of gas cutters, drills, or forced mechanical entry. The criminal apparently located duplicate keys hidden inside the shop’s managerial office desks.

The burglar systematically collected heavy gold necklaces, diamond bangles, and bridal jewelry sets. The intruder stuffed the precious metal ornaments into sturdy customized fabric sacks. In addition, the suspect gathered loose bundles of high-denomination cash stored in separate lockers. The long duration inside suggests that the thief worked with absolute calm and composure.

Decamping with Gold and Digital Video Recorders

Before departing, the suspect dismantled the internal closed-circuit television hardware. The burglar ripped out the digital video recorder units to destroy digital camera recordings. By removing the hard drives, the intruder attempted to erase all forensic footage of the crime. However, external municipal cameras on neighboring streets captured distant silhouettes exiting the premises around 5:30 am.

The criminal climbed back onto the rooftop carrying the heavy bags of loot. The suspect slipped through narrow residential alleys before disappearing into morning transit crowds. When the showroom owner arrived at 9:00 am, he found empty display cases and unlocked safes. Consequently, terrified shop staff immediately raised an alarm and notified the local police emergency desk.

Police Suspect Insider Knowledge in Meticulous Plan

Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar inspected the burgled showroom alongside forensic specialists. Police investigators noted that the thief possessed intimate familiarity with the establishment’s internal layout. The criminal clearly knew where management kept safe keys and digital storage hardware. Therefore, investigators strongly suspect the active involvement of a current or disgruntled former employee.

Detectives are currently interrogating recent showroom staff members and private security personnel. Investigators are compiling lists of workers dismissed from the business over the past year. Furthermore, police cyber teams are analyzing mobile phone tower records active in Kosi Kalan overnight. SSP Shlok Kumar confirmed that officers have achieved significant investigative breakthroughs in identifying the suspect.

Intensive Manhunt and Forensic Search Launched

Forensic scientists collected fingerprint samples from safe handles, office drawers, and ceiling entry points. Police canine squads tracked scent trails across adjacent rooftops toward an empty highway lot. In addition, highway surveillance teams are reviewing vehicle movements along connecting Agra-Delhi expressways. Police leadership expressed strong confidence in recovering the stolen gold and arresting the perpetrator shortly.

Local bullion merchant associations held an emergency meeting to demand heightened police patrolling in commercial hubs. Jewelers urged municipal authorities to install additional high-definition night cameras across all major bazaars. Furthermore, business owners plan to review their internal background-check protocols for showroom employees. The astonishing heist stands as one of the largest property thefts recorded in Mathura’s history.
