Dealing a significant blow to critics and political analysts, actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay secured a landmark victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. His party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single-largest entity to capture power in the state.

Vijay publicly distanced himself from the entity to ensure that any future political vehicle would be established on his own terms. Four years later, he formally launched TVK. He deployed the organizational infrastructure developed over decades through his state-wide fan associations to mobilize voters across Tamil Nadu.

Reflecting on his trajectory, Vijay had consistently maintained that entering public service required waiting for the appropriate political climate.
