Food safety authorities in Karnataka ordered the immediate shutdown of the kitchen at Skyye Lounge in UB City. Officers from the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration carried out surprise inspections across commercial eateries in Bengaluru. During the drive, officers seized and destroyed 132 kilograms of spoiled food items. Food safety team also confiscated 15 litres of unsafe cooking oil that was repeatedly reused. The crackdown targeted high-end dining venues and commercial kitchens to enforce strict health standards.
Fungus-Infected Meat and Expired Dairy Found at Skyye Lounge
During the inspection at Skyye Lounge, food safety officers uncovered major hygiene violations inside the kitchen area. Inspectors seized 45 kilograms of chicken and beef that showed visible fungal growth. Officers also found six kilograms of spoiled vegetable cutlets stored in refrigerators.
Dairy products like milk and curd were past their expiration dates by up to ten days. Officials discarded 51 kilograms of contaminated food from the venue on the spot. The department then issued an official notice suspending all kitchen operations until full compliance is met.
Multiple City Outlets Targeted in Food Safety Inspection Drive
The citywide inspection drive uncovered unsafe storage practices across four other commercial dining establishments. Officers inspected the Royal Chain Hotel and confiscated 50 kilograms of duck alongside five kilograms of fish.
At Sanchez Hotel, inspectors seized three kilograms of fish and destroyed seven kilograms of spoiled cakes, potatoes, and tacos.
Teams visiting Madras Kitchen seized five kilograms of unfit green peas. Inspection teams at Tescon Hotel disposed of five kilograms of spoiled mushrooms that were stored improperly.
Strict Legal Action Initiated Under Food Safety Regulations
The Food Safety and Drug Administration initiated formal legal proceedings against all non-compliant outlets under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. Officials confirmed that show-cause notices are being served to the management of these establishments.
Authorities stated that inspection drives will continue across luxury hotels, rooftop bars, and raw material suppliers in Bengaluru.
Department heads warned that commercial outlets failing to follow cold storage rules and hygiene standards will face permanent license cancellations.
