Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke issued a nationwide mobilization call on Wednesday evening. He asked citizens and youth to gather at Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place on Friday, October 16. Dipke urged demonstrators to arrive at 5:00 pm carrying the Indian national flag.

The youth convener launched the campaign under the banner “Lehra do Tiranga” to defend civil liberties. Speaking to supporters, Dipke declared that citizens will prove holding the national flag is not a crime. According to breaking political coverage by The Indian Express, Dipke returned to Delhi after attending his grandmother’s funeral rites in Maharashtra. Therefore, he chose the capital’s central business district for the next round of peaceful resistance.

Outrage Over Jailing of Activists for Holding National Flag

The fresh protest call follows the controversial imprisonment of senior CJP leaders on Tuesday. Delhi Police arrested party spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka inside the denotified Jantar Mantar complex. Both activists had entered the locked grounds carrying the tricolor to protest against the Election Commission.

A Special Executive Magistrate remanded both leaders to five days in judicial custody at Tihar Jail. As highlighted by The Times of India, the magistrate accepted police claims that the activists threatened public peace. Consequently, Dipke accused authorities of treating the national flag as a criminal weapon. He stated that jailing students for holding the tricolor reveals deep administrative insecurity.

Earlier on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi strongly defended the imprisoned CJP organizers. Gandhi termed their judicial detention an act of cowardice and pledged to reclaim Jantar Mantar.

Dipke thanked opposition leaders for showing solidarity with the student organizers. However, he clarified that the CJP will remain an independent grassroots citizen pressure group. In addition, CJP legal advocates challenged the magistrate’s remand order before the Delhi High Court. Furthermore, legal counsels argued that preventive detention laws cannot suppress peaceful flag demonstrations. As a result, the campaign against voter list revisions gained fresh political momentum across university campuses.

Security Agencies Prepare for Fresh Demonstration in Commercial Heart

The announcement of a mass assembly in Connaught Place created fresh logistical headaches for city authorities. Delhi Police recently sought central paramilitary extensions until October 20 to maintain order.

Commercial trade associations also expressed worry, citing weekend retail losses exceeding Rs 2,000 crore. On the other hand, Dipke guaranteed that Friday’s demonstration will remain completely peaceful and orderly. Moreover, student unions and citizen groups pledged to join the Central Park gathering in large numbers. The upcoming Friday rally sets up a high-stakes constitutional standoff in the heart of the national capital.
