Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal has tendered a public apology for the 2015 sacrilege incidents that took place during the Akali Dal regime. Addressing a massive party gathering in Sangrur district to commemorate the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal.
She reiterated the party’s remorse before the Sikh community while mounting a fierce political counter-attack against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Apology for Sacrilege Incidents Under Akali Regime
During her address, Harsimrat Kaur Badal expressed profound sorrow over the tragic desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 2015. She stated that while the Badal family and the Akali leadership never had any direct role in the conspiracy, the party accepted moral responsibility for failing to prevent the sacrilege incidents during its government.
She sought forgiveness from the Sikh Panth, stating that the leadership has consistently bowed before Sri Akal Takht Sahib with humility and penitence to heal community sentiments.
Slams Bhagwant Mann Over Inaction in 600 Sacrilege Cases
Turning her focus on the current administration, the Bathinda MP questioned the track record of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. She accused the AAP government of using the sacrilege issue purely for political point-scoring rather than securing real justice for the community.
She pointed out that over 600 incidents of desecration of holy scriptures occurred across Punjab under Congress and AAP rule over the past nine years, alleging that the state police failed to hold perpetrators accountable or conclude key investigations.
Call to End Delhi’s ‘Remote Control’ in Punjab Governance
The former Union Minister exhorted Punjabis to reject external political interference and rally behind regional representation. She alleged that the AAP leadership administers the border state via “remote control” from Delhi, which undermines state autonomy and neglects critical issues like law and order, farmers’ welfare, and drug eradication.
She also raised concerns over security lapses linked to recent physical attacks on SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, demanding strict institutional accountability from the state government.
