Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi on Friday, accompanying a student who suffered severe pellet gun injuries during a recent youth agitation. Gandhi visited the police station alongside 19-year-old Sahil Lohchab to demand the immediate registration of a formal First Information Report (FIR) against security personnel responsible for firing metal pellets during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led ‘Chalo Sansad’ demonstration on July 20.

The Congress leader presented medical documentation and visible physical trauma suffered by the student. Lohchab sustained multiple pellet wounds across his face, arms, and torso, leading to impaired vision in one eye after police cracked down on the student march.
Gandhi criticized the central government and Delhi Police for repeatedly denying the deployment of pellet guns.
Stating that photographic, medical, and eyewitness evidence conclusively proves that security forces used lethal crowd-control weapons against peaceful youth protesting paper leak scandals.

High political drama unfolded when duty officers hesitated to register an immediate FIR against police personnel. In response, Gandhi and senior party leaders staged a brief sit-in protest on the premises, questioning why law enforcement agencies refused to accept complaints from injured citizens.
The Leader of Opposition insisted that the police must exhibit constitutional accountability and investigate who authorized the use of specialized anti-riot ammunition against college students.
Intensifying Judicial Scrutiny Over Police Conduct
The police station visit comes amid escalating judicial scrutiny over the management of the Jantar Mantar and Parliament march protests. The Supreme Court of India recently constituted a five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee headed by former apex court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy to probe allegations of excessive force, illegal detentions, and assaults on student protesters.
Gandhi reiterated that the opposition will continue to raise youth grievances both inside Parliament and on the streets until authorities hold errant officials accountable.
